The Society was set up in 1989 to promote self-help and independence amongst the blind and partially sighted people in the Wirral area.
We have a fully equipped Resource Centre with low vision aids and daily living equipment on display. We provide social activities including holidays for members, advocacy, help, support and advice to help people enjoy a better quality of life. We also have an extensive talking book library.
We have a mini Resource Centre and information point within the Eye Department at Arrowe Park Hospital, from where we also provide a talking book service to visually impaired in-patients.
We hold a bi-monthly low vision clinic run by a qualified optometrist. We also offer a brailling service to other charities, local NHS departments and local government.
We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations to maintain and run the services at our Resource Centre. We encourage active participation of blind people in the running and organisation of the Society. |
